Kate Kirkwood is a very smart and witty photographer. I grew up on a farm myself, so seeing her attention to detail is really fascinating – I think that’s a red Angus cow, but correct me if I’m wrong. I really, really like this series. Anything can be interesting, right? Right, even the backs of farm animals. This is such an interesting take on a subject that has been widely photographed.

I was browsing Nina Corvallo’s blog and saw her post about Todd Forgen’s work, which I wasn’t familiar with but really enjoyed his Bird Banding Project. All this made me think of an exhibit that I saw last year at Maison de la culture Plateau Mont-Royal with two artists by the names of Loren Williams and Randall Finnerty, who now both live in Montreal. Their work was captivating to say the least. The exhibit was called La Volière (The Aviary). Loren works predominately in photography and Randall is a visual artist working with charcoal and paper. I couldn’t remember their names, so I called the gallery to find out and I’m so happy that I have found their work again. It’s just so honest and uncomplicated, it’s refreshing.
